PDSF Bicol Elects Edgar Balasta as Chairman; Unveils New Regional Roadmap

SORSOGON CITY — The Bicol Chapter of the Philippine Dancesport Federation (PDSF) has officially fortified its leadership structure, electing Edgar C. Balasta as its new Chairman. The move signals a strategic shift toward professionalizing and expanding dancesport across the six provinces of the Bicol Region.

A Legacy of Sports Advocacy

Chairman Balasta is no stranger to transformative sports leadership. As the CCDI Administrator and President of PRISAA Region V, he has a storied history of building grassroots foundations, including the Basketball Academy of Sorsogon and the unification of provincial officiating under the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

Under his guidance, PRISAA Region V has consistently climbed the national rankings. Balasta now aims to apply this "gold standard" to dancesport, emphasizing that the first step to athlete success is the proper accreditation and training of coaches.

The New Executive Board

PDSF Academy Head Crisaldo Rendon formally inducted the following officers to lead the regional charge:

  • President: Raniel Estuaria
  • Vice Presidents: Jestonie Furio (Sorsogon), Emmanuel Relox Jr. (Albay), Elena Relato (Cam. Sur), Dr. Arnel Plantado (Cam. Norte), Scottie Spud Saquin (Masbate), Ryan Molog (Catanduanes).
  • Secretariat & Finance: Kate Masbate (Sec-Gen), Diane Deuna (Asst. Sec), Monica Barrameda (Treas.), Engr. Aldric Morse Baraquiel (Asst. Treas).
  • Audit & Information: Lenard James Unciano (Auditor), Jarvin Santos (PIO).

Grassroots Mobilization

In an unprecedented move, the chapter designated coordinators for over 20 municipalities—from Legazpi City to Ticao Island—to oversee local programs. Chairman Balasta noted that additional appointments are pending for municipalities as coaches achieve their Level 1 PDSF certification, ensuring that every local program is led by a qualified expert.

The Vision Ahead

The PDSF Bicol Chapter is moving quickly to establish partnerships with the Department of Education (DepEd) and various Local Government Units (LGUs). The goal is clear: structured training, fair adjudication, and a unified leadership that will eventually turn Bicol into the country’s premier hub for dancesport excellence.
